Gravity

The Song of the Day is...

Gravity
Shawn McDonald

I googled the definition of gravity because I wanted to use it to talk about this song and I found the definition I expected about a "fundemental physical force", but I didn't expect to find that the first definition listed said "diginity or sobriety of bearing", meaning importance or significance, followed by "seriousness, a serious situation or problem". The writer of this song picked the perfect word. The way he uses the word gravity in the song makes it sound like he's talking about the physical force of gravity "pulling him to the ground". But I think the whole song is talking about the gravity, or significance of maintaining the most important relationship every single one of us will ever have... our relationship with God. The world pulls you in 100 different ways and sometimes it's tough to hear God through all of that. It's easy to lose sight of what's really important in life. I could talk about this subject forever because I think it's a struggle that everyone can relate to and it's so important. But I think I'll let everyone think about how the song relates to their own life. In case you've never heard the song before, it has pretty powerful lyrics and I'm gonna post them for you.

The ways of this world are grabbing a hold
Won't let me go, won't let me fly by
It’s taking it's toll down on my soul ‘Cause I know what I need in my life
Don't let me lose my sight of You
Don't let me lose my sight

Chorus:
I don't want to fall away from You
Gravity is pulling me on down
I don't want to fall away from You
Gravity is pulling me to the ground

This world keeps making me cry
But I'm going to try, going to try to fly, GOTTA FLY HIGH
Don't want to give into the sin, want to stay IN YOU ‘til the end
Don't want to lose my sight of You
Don't want to lose my sight

Chorus

I want to fly
Into the sky
Turn my back on this WHOLE world AND Leave it all behind
This place is not my home
It's got nothing for me
Only leaves me with emptiness
And tears in my eyes

Chorus
